All together now…

Thought it’d be fun to make one big graphic using all the Top 36 icons I made earlier! I think it’s cute. You can use it for whatever. I’ll probably use it along the way during the season and mark out people as they get voted off.

New auditioner icon already!

I couldn’t resist . . . I had to get started on new icons right away, with Katrina Darrell being my first subject. I took the negative approach, but if you like her and want a “pro-Katrina” icon, I can do that, too, I suppose.

I used my favorite new quote that Kara DioGuardi said to Ms. Bikini after she was put through to Hollywood. Classic. :)

It’s baaaaack!!

Finally, the long hiatus is over, and it’s time to get back down to business! American Idol’s eighth season premiered on Tuesday the 13th and Wednesday the 14th, almost eight months after crowning David Cook as the season 7 winner. It’s been quite a long and boring break—there’s only so many Cookie icons I can make in that long stretch of time!

So, a few months back, Fox execs promised that the audience would see fewer bad auditions, and we would get to meet more of the Golden Ticket winners. After watching the two-part premiere, I gotta say that I don’t feel like they quite fulfilled their promise. They did better than before, but there’s definitely still room for improvement.

Only a few potential stars caught my eye during the first two shows. In Phoenix, I was interested in Emily Hughes (the pink-haired rocker who sang Heart’s “Barracuda”), Arianna Afsar (the teenager who sang “Put Your Records On”), Cody Sheldon (the horror flick enthusiast who sang James Morrison’s “Wonderful World”) and Stevie Wright (the bubbly girl who sang “At Last”).

In Kansas City, I was impressed by Jessica Furney (the girl with the cool funky black glasses who sang “Cry Baby”) and Von Smith (the boy with the white hat who sang “Over the Rainbow”). Michael Castro, Jason Castro’s brother, was a mild third runner-up, though I found him to be a much less charming and charismatic version of his brother. I didn’t find anyone else really memorable enough to mention again. Sure, there were the traditional stand-outs that the Idol producers want us to root for: Scott MacIntyre, the young man who displayed remarkable talent despite his blindness; Lil Rounds, whose family lost everything in a tornado; and Danny Gokey, who had just lost his wife 4 weeks before his audition. Of course, these are very touching stories, and these contestants will obviously go very far. When picking favorites this early on, I tend to stay away from the obvious ones that are showcased throughout the entire episode. A little unfair? Perhaps.

Of course, everybody’s still talking about “Bikini Girl,” a.k.a. Katrina Darrell. I have a feeling that she will be The Chosen One that keeps getting mentioned all the way up until the finale. Please, please, PLEASE cut her in Hollywood!! She is awful. Obviously, the guys only put her through because of her body. Kara was right to call her out on her lack of “swing,” though I think she was lacking in quite a few other areas as well. My new favorite quote? “Next time, come naked.”—Kara DioGuardi

Speaking of Hollywood, did that little promo at the end of Wednesday’s episode get anyone else ridiculously pumped up for the Hollywood Week episodes? Wow, they made it look CRAZY in the preview! Too bad that’s several weeks away. The execs also promised us more Hollywood footage a while back. Let’s see if they actually keep that promise.

Now that the show is back on, I can get an early start on all those icons and layouts for the new contestants. Any requests in particular? Just leave a comment!

Rumor has it… Clay Aiken will reveal that he is gay!

The story has not been confirmed yet, but supposedly, Clay Aiken will finally come out of the closet in an exclusive interview with People Magazine. Clay has been dodging the question for years, even though it was pretty obvious to everybody anyway.

Clay recently fathered a child with his female friend via in vitro fertilization. According to PerezHilton.com, he has decided to come forward after realizing that he doesn’t want to raise his child to hide anything.

People has neither confirmed nor denied that he will reveal his sexuality in the interview.

The story will be on People.com at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning. The story is also the cover story of their newest issue. Stay tuned for official confirmation.

Congratulations to Jennifer Hudson on her engagement!

Jennifer Hudson, American Idol season 3 contestant and perhaps the most robbed contestant in the show’s history, has announced that she recently got engaged to her boyfriend David “Punk” Otunga, a former contestant of the VH1 reality show “I Love New York 2.”

Otunga proposed to Jennifer on September 12, her 27th birthday. The couple have been dating for less than a year. (Eeek! Sign of impending doom? Hope not!)

Hopefully, the second time around is kinder to Jennifer. Before dating Otunga, she was in a relationship with maintenance engineer James Peyton, an average Joe from her hometown Chicago, for eight years. According to the tabloids, she had promised to marry him if she won the Oscar for her breakout role in Dreamgirls. They had supposedly planned to marry on New Years Day ‘08, but they split in November 2007 amidst rumors that she had dumped him for NY Jets safety Kerry Rhodes. (Ms. Hudson must have been looking to move on up!)

It may be easy (okay, really easy) to poke fun at a man who goes by the nickname “Punk” and was dumped by brash, rowdy Tiffany “New York” Pollard; however, Otunga is also a Harvard Law School graduate and a former attorney. He also hails from her hometown of Chicago. Let’s hope he doesn’t live up to his nickname and gives Jenny everything she deserves!

Jennifer and David have not set a wedding date yet.

Jennifer’s debut album, Jennifer Hudson, drops on September 30. You can also catch her in The Secret Life of Bees with Dakota Fanning starting October 17. Anybody happen to see her in the Sex and the City movie? I missed it, because frankly, I can’t stand Sarah Jessica Parker. I would have liked to have seen Jen’s performance, though. I heard she was pretty good.

David Cook singing “Time of My Life” on the Oprah show

YouTube - David Cook on Oprah.

I was so ticked at my stupid TV for losing its signal just when the Oprah show was starting, so I missed seeing DC. Luckily for me, we live in the YouTube age. So, I post the video of David’s performance on Oprah for the rest of you unlucky people who missed it like I did. He gets hotter and hotter every day, huh? And I couldn’t help notice that everyone was touching him. Wonder if he liked that, or if he was like, “Stop touching me, I’m trying to freakin’ sing!”

Check out David Archuleta’s new music video for “Crush”!

YouTube - David Archuleta - Crush Music Video!!.

Quite the cutie, I have to admit. I wasn’t the biggest fan of his during the show, but I will give him credit for being a great performer (which I first had to admit when I saw the tour) and also a very sweet and cute little dude. I hope he does well in his career.

New Myspace layout added! American Idol season 7 top 10 layout

Just finished a new layout for Myspace! It’s a layout of the top 10 of American Idol season 7 (Chikezie, Ramiele Malubay, Kristy Lee Cook, Carly Smithson, Michael Johns, Jason Castro, Brooke White, Syesha Mercado, David Archuleta, and David Cook). I used the tour promo shot of them all in white and gold. The layout is black and white with a matching contact table and extended network banner (those are in color).

The code for the layout is in the layout info page, and it is also in the live preview in a scrollbox.
